Traditionally, barbute helmets didn’t feature visors, although the needs of the warrior are what dictate the evolution of the helm. Thus, this Epic Dark Visored Barbuta Helmet is as protective as a typical barbute and then-some, thanks to the added visor. The barbute, or barbuta, was originally designed in medieval Italy, although because of how effective and useful the helmet was, it spread to other regions as well. This helmet alters the typical design of a barbute by including a protective visor. The helmet is otherwise a typical barbuta, offering a high degree of protection to the head while leaving the face open. The visor takes care of that little defensive hole, though. The visor is distinctive in design, possessing two rectangular eyelets, as well as a cross-shaped cut-out that acts as an air hole that helps ventilate the helm and allows the wearer to breathe easier. At the side of the helmet is a small hook that latches the helmet down and secures it in place, while the side of the helmet features a small pin and chain that secures the visor to the helmet. This means that the helmet’s visor can be rotated up or to the side, or it can be removed entirely, if that is your desire. The helmet is crafted from quality steel and features an incredible looking dark metal finish, which makes the helmet look aged and worn. The dark metal finish offers further advantages in the form of rust protection, as well as proving to be remarkably resistant to both scratches and impacts. The interior of the helmet features a liner, both for comfort and for making small adjustments to size. It is a full-sized replica helmet that is fully wearable, and when worn, it stands up rather well to the rigors and impacts experienced during the course of LARP combat and light reenactment. It is available in two sizes, either medium or large. Original barbutes might not have had visors, but the two are an ingenious combination, so much so that this Epic Dark Visored Barbuta Helmet is the kind of protection that any warrior could kill to have when they march onto the field of battle.
